Initial Setup Cadant C3

Dear,

I'm new in this area of DOCSIS / HFC and the company I'm working received a Cadant C3 CMTS to configure, but I'm not able to configure it. Actually I can not access the command prompt via the console terminal. Always prompts user name and password, this is normal. Is there a default username and password? It should not be like the cisco equipment where the first access via terminal is released without a password and then the settings are made.

It is necessary to update the firmware first? If so could inform the correct procedures to perform?

The most I got was an access terminal before complete boot where you can configure an enable password, but nothing more, because there was plenty of command.

Thanks to all,
Karin Klayton

Best way to get the password

Best way to get the password of one of them is getting the card into a card reader and editing the config file, that's how I got my password :-)

By curiosity, let me know what you think of it... It's cheaper then a cisco yes, does the same. The one I'm using has version of firmware
4.2.0.18 the software part seems to go out of it's mind and upstream stop working correctly couldn't debug this issue.

If you know of some new software for it greater then that version 4.2.0.18 please let me know and share if you can.

The one I got does not have a license for routing OSPF not that it's a problem because it's a small network but would be a improvement.

Best regards,
Fernando

4.4 !!

4.4 :|

Could you get me that version?

exactly

exactly

This version 4.4.4.13.bin came on CD with the manuals of the equipment box. I still have doubts to upgrade the product firmware.

Well, if you pull out the

Well, if you pull out the flash card and stick it in a computer, open up startup-configuration with wordpad and you can pull/change the passwords there. To update the firmware, while you've got the card out, just copy the bin file to the card, and change the bin filename in the config. (I think, been a while since I done that on a C3) I usually make a copy of the flash card before I change anything, just in case.

The 4.4 firmware was rock solid for me.

Oh, I've got 3 of the 1x6 C3 units for sale, btw, if anyone is interested. They're in pristine condition, and the only reason we stopped using them was because we upgraded to Docsis 3.
