How to provision the MTA of motorola SBV5121E

Hi, everyone

I am a new in cm and docsis, I am trying to bring up the moto SBV5121E. It's sucessful connecting to the provisioning server, and completing the dhcp both for cm and mta, and their tftp download are sucessful too, but the mta provisioning failed. what's the necessary TLV for BASIC.2 flow in the mta config file?

Can you tell me what was wrong?
The logs is not in enough detail, can the cm or mta be telneted? I try to telnet 192.168.100.1 by LAN, but fail.

mbowe
I have a copy of the "SBV5X2X

I have a copy of the "SBV5X2X-SIP Provisioning Specification" document here.

It says

"2.1 Provisioning Modes

The EMTA will need to support a number of different provisioning modes for customers deploying SIP signaling
prior to the PacketCable 2.0 standardization. The number and diversity of provisioning modes may require
multiple code images. Refer to the SBV5X2X-SIP Firmware Release Notes for the list of code images and
provisioning modes supported.

The MTA provisioning mode may be selected using the cmMtaProvMode MIB object. The MIB object may be set
via SNMP in the factory or in the CM configuration file. The setting is persistent. Not all provisioning modes will
be available for all SW build types. Each build type will have a default provisioning mode 1 and may support
alternate provisioning modes. Upon initialization, if the provisioning mode stored in non-volatile memory is not
supported by the build type, the default provisioning mode will be used."

Then it goes on to talk about
* PacketCable 1.0 Compatibility Mode
* PacketCable 1.5 Compatibility Mode
* Euro-PacketCable 1.5 Compatibility Mode
* Legacy Dual-File Mode
* PacketCable 2.0 Compatible Mode
* PacketCable Bypass Mode

I'm no expert in the Moto EMTA, but I remember using this doc to get a SBV6120 to come online OK using BASIC.1

I looked over your config and it looks about right. Although not sure about some of the MTA config you included, I didnt have any IPSec / Kerb etc statements in my mta config when I tested the 6120....

The thing that scares me about BASIC provisioning is what happens if you get a smart user who works out how to grab the mta config files off your tftp server? Then they can see the SIP usernames/passwords and make calls as other users....

Not sure if its ok to post the moto provisioning file here. Maybe send me an email if you want it. michael at bowe id au

SBV5X2X-SIP Provisioning Specification document

Vendors must use the secure flow to provion the cm and mta, in this mode, the config file is encrypted in the network, so if the user grab it in the process of tftp download, he can not decrypt. But if the tftp server was hacked, no way to stop stealing the SIP usernames/passwords. The secure of tftp server should be enhanced.

It will be grate if you sent me the SBV5X2X-SIP Provisioning Specification document, and the moto provisioning file. I can not found them in google searching.

Thank you very much for you help. My email is xieqianli690@gmail.com.

I've sent them

I've sent you the provisioning doc I had, as well as example cm and mta config files for 6120. Apparently the 6120 is very similar provisioning to the 5121

Hopefully that helps!

Post your findings here so other people can learn from your research :-)

sha1sum is incorrect

mbowe, Thank you very much for you help!
I found that there is an root user besides admin. I user the root login the website of the cm, there is an additional menu 'Advanced'. Below is the key logs:
Provisioning Errors
OID Value Reason
1.3.6.1.4.1.4491.2.2.1.1.2.7.48 NO_CREATION
Unknown Digest Algorithm, HashLength invalid

In PKT-SP-PROV1.5 spec, pktcMtaDevProvConfigHash which is calculated by sha-1 is needed to added to the config file, I think the value calculated by my provioning server is incorrect, I need to figure out this problem first.

mbowe
SHA-1

I went back through my notes for when I tested 6120 MTA with BASIC provisioning

Here's a few snippets :

in the cm config file you can tell modem to advertise particular packetcable mode
SnmpMibObject cmMtaProvMode.0 Integer 2; /* pcProv15 */

for the MTA config file, have to include a SHA hash.
To do this, create the source config file (without the pktcMtaDevProvConfigHash)
Compile the config file
Work out the sha hash of the binary file eg : sha1sum my-mta.bin
Then add the hash into the source file eg
SnmpMibObject pktcMtaDevProvConfigHash.0 HexString 0x65188b391afcd8855862f9f7092cc4cae3e56240;
(Needs to be the last line before the eof marker)
Then compile the file again
Pretty messy, but i guess you could use some sort of script to automate this.
Or use an editor that can add the hash during creation (eg PacketACE)
Or use a provisioning server that adds the hash on the fly.

DEV provisioning is successful but register fail

Hi, mbowe
Previously, I use docsis-0.9.6 to compile the config file, but it isn't support GI-BTI-MIB. I found a tool which named bticonfig_2.33 on your website, and use bticonfig_basic mode to compile the txt file, the sha1 will be added in the bin file. The hash number is correct now.

Then, base on the 6120 config file you gave me, I can bring up the mta now. I deleted all the NCS config tlv while maintain the sip tlv. But the following tlvs must be comment, or the mta will repeat dhcp and tftp, and provision always in process.
#TLV11 GI-BTI-MIB btiSipEndPntCfgUserId[1] = "08111@10.80.117.40"
#TLV11 GI-BTI-MIB btiSipEndPntCfgDisplayName[1] = "08111"
#TLV11 GI-BTI-MIB btiSipEndPntCfgAuthName[1] = "08111@open-ims.test"
#TLV11 GI-BTI-MIB btiSipEndPntCfgAuthPassword[1] = "08111"

Althought the provisioning is completed, the mta won't register to the sip proxy server. What was wrong in the above value? Did you success to register it?

Below is my config file:

}

maybe that will help?

if your docsis compiler doesnt support those bti mibs, it should just be a case of dumping the moto mibs into your /usr/local/share/snmp or similar dir

mbowe
mib files

and I also fixed up my website so those moto mib files should now be downloadable if you need them

No SUBSCRIBE request

Now still have one problem. After register to the openims server, the MTA will not send out the SUBSCRIBE request, so that can not may a call~

xieqianli690
400 bad request

Maybe SB5121 SIP does not comply with the IMS spec. So I shift to the Asterisk to test. Asterisk no need SUBSCRIBE, but another problem comes out.

Make a call from mta1 to mta2(the other SBV5121), Request was rejected.

Hello,

can anyone provide me that firmware: SBV5121-SIP-1.0.7-SCM-05-SHPC
Because i have only the 1.0.0 version which seems to have some bugs.

Thanks in advance
Michael
