Connecting cable modem to cmts

Now I want to test cmts with cable modem. This is what I plan to do:
- connect modem to cmts (how to do this, on which ports - I guess on downstream and one of the upstream ports, how to combine these ports to go to modem bacause modem has only one rf on it and it will go via one cable through network)
- use miktotik pppoe server as I use for adsl
- use radius for user authentication
I do not plan to use dhcp in cable network (they will get address from pppoe pool on mikrotik pppoe server)
I need help with this initial setup

quick and easy

take a 2-way splitter, on the input, add two 20 pads. on one of the output ports, ad a 10 pad.
outport with no pad, connect to receiver. output port with the 10 pad connect to downstream.
input port with two 20 pads, connect to cable modem. most default cmts settings would be about 55 transmit level and 0 receive level.

Thank you for helping me. Since I am a new in this terminoligy, can you describe what is pad and how to add it.
I would realy appreciate this, and thanks you for trying to help me.

pad =

pad would be those rf attenuators used to lower signal level.
so if you have 30 dbmv going into a 20 pad, would you have 10 going out ;-)
