CM configuration: MaxRateSustained is not being respected by cable modem

Hi, everyone

Recently we've been testing a small Chineese CMTS in our network. One strange observation: MaxRateSustained in the cable modem config file is not being respected. Any cable modem can use all bandwidth the CMTS can provide for download. So, I'm a bit puzzled. Does the CMTS has anything to do with MaxRateSustained config parameter? In other word, does it has to be supported somehow in CMTS as well as in cable modem in order to work properly?

Thanks and best regards,

CMTS Config

I'm not sure what cmts you've got, but you need to have rate-limit configured on the downstream and upstream ports. otherwise it's wide open.
Double check and let us know how you made out

The company that makes those

The company that makes those is "Chongqing jinghong". There has been a post on this forum about their CMTS.

It looks like you are right. Either rate limiting is not enabled or not supported in this CMTS. Thanks a lot for your answer.

Junk

Thanks for getting back with the info. but to let everybody have wide open downstream and upstream, it's nothing but trouble.
reminds me of those old telephone company tv commercials with cable modem hogs. there where funny as hell, you would see neighbors cutting the hedge and then the cable wire so the guy next door would be out and less people on the cable roflmao
sorry, memory lane thing
