Call forwarding on for Arris EMTAs

Hello,

Does anyone have a quick way to turn on call forwarding in the Arris EMTAs? I'm using Asterisk and I need to be able to let people dial *72, *73 etc.... Is it just the digit map?

Thanks,
Eric

I think so

We farm this out to our provider so I have not had to deal with it personally, however this is the relevant docs from the manual

Digit Map
SIP digit maps are identical to NCS digit maps:
• An x indicates any digit.
• The | (pipe) character separates different entries.
After each digit is pressed, the digit collector looks at each entry in the digit
map to determine if any entry is complete. If an entry is complete, dialing is
complete. There are some exceptions when star codes are specified. For a
star code (VSC) to be handled, it must be in the digit map and possibly in
another MIB object. (I believe this is the feature capabilities MIB mentioned below)
The below example is 10 digit dialing with 2 digit star codes.
{SnmpMib sipCfgDigitMap.0 "xxxxxxxxxx|*xx"}

Call Forwarding Forbidden Numbers
There are certain phone numbers (eg. 911) that Call Forwarding should not
accept as forwarding numbers. The sipCfgCallForwardForbiddenNumbers
MIB object specifies which numbers are not allowed as forwarding numbers.
This object can be set only in the configuration file. Multiple numbers may
be specified separated by | as follows:
{SnmpMib sipCfgCallForwardForbiddenNumbers.0 "911|900|1900|0"}
Note: The emergency number set in sipCfgEmergencyNumber is also not
allowed as a forwarding number.

Feature Capabilities
Ten MIB objects allow control of certain features on a per-line basis. The
objects follow a naming convention of sipCfgfeatCapability, where feat is
the specific feature. Each MIB object consists of a hexadecimal bit string (32
bits wide) where each bit is a flag corresponding to a different line. These
objects can be only set in the configuration file.
When a feature capability of a particular line is set to zero (off), that feature
is disabled for that line regardless of the value of any other MIB object,
including sipCfgFeatureSettings. By default, all feature capabilities are
enabled for every line; all ten MIB objects default to the hex value
FFFFFFFF (which is a string of 32 ones). When a feature is enabled, the
user may still enable or disable the feature using dial codes. However, if the
feature capability is disabled in the configuration file, the dial code to enable
that feature does not work.
The following table lists the controllable features and the corresponding MIB
object controlling its capability:
Feature MIB Object
Caller ID Display sipCfgCallerIdDisplayCapability
Caller ID Send sipCfgCallerIdSendCapability
Anonymous Call Rejection sipCfgAnonCallRejectionCapability
Call Waiting sipCfgCallWaitingCapability
Three Way Calling sipCfgThreeWayCallCapability
Call Transfer sipCfgCallTransferCapability
Call Forwarding sipCfgCallForwardCapability
Call Return sipCfgCallReturnCapability
Call Redial sipCfgCallRedialCapability
Call Holding sipCfgCallHoldCapability
Examples:
To disable three-way calling for lines 1 and 3, add the following line to the
configuration file:
{SnmpMib sipCfgThreeWayCallCapability.0 FFFFFFFA}
Note: For an 8- or 12-line Telephony Modem, this is identical to setting the
value to 00000FFA because only the 12 least significant bits are used.
To disable three-way calling for all lines on a Telephony Modem, modify the
setting as follows:
{SnmpMib sipCfgThreeWayCallCapability.0 00000000}
To enable three-way calls for all lines, delete any settings for sipCfgThree-
WayCallCapability from the configuration file and reset the modem.

Hopefully that will get you started

SOLVED

Ok, I got it. My interface now has a way to disable call waiting per subscriber via the mtamac.bin file.

Thanks all,

Help with eMTA in Arris 502G

Eric,

I see from these forums that you have a great deal of experience configuring and using the eMTA on the Arris 502G. I am just getting started and can certainly use some help. Can we talk privately please? my email is sammirata@gmail.com

Here's another

If anyone needs help offline for fee based service just let me know. I'm very reasonable and love to barter. I can do everything to make a private cable system work with TV, Internet and Phone. I can also do a lot of tricks that the monopoly companies can't. If you're looking to get the most profit from your subscribers and still offer them lower rates than monopoly cable, let me know. I've learned DOCSIS the hard way and found that it plays nice with private cable.

Call Waiting Disable?

Hello emkowale,

can you please write me an email (deni[at]dezman.net) with the method how to disable or enable Call Waiting per subscriber's CM config file?

Thanks!

switch

Yup it can be done. It's just an SNMP string that when set to zero returns busy. Then your switch does the rest. I'll drop you an e-mail.

Documentation

Hi,

So where does one get the documentation that that you have printed above? Now I'm trying to get the sipCfgCallWaitingCapability to work, but I don't know the values it accepts. I need to turn off call waiting permanently for a subscriber.

Thanks,
Eric

if you call up Arris and get

if you call up Arris and get a support id (not sure if cost is involved or not, think it depends on where you get your modems) you gain access to their downloads section which has the documentation neatly organized by firmware type (SIP/MGCP) and version. As a side bonus their tech support is not half bad either and can help you with your problem unless you enjoy figuring it out yourself.

Thanks,
Jason

Forwarding again

Hello,

I did the the call waiting thing fixed, but now I have someone that wants call forwarding. I'm trying to find an easy way to do it. Right now, my idea is to store a forwarding number in a database and rebuild the PBX periodically with a cron job. It sure would be great if I could do the forwarding from a the mta config file and just have the emta do it. Can that be done?

Thanks,
Eric

Call Forwarding conf

I have modified my config adding to the DigitMap to permit |*xx, and sipcfgcallforwardcapability is active by default,
do I need anything else to activate call forward? It doesn't work dialing *72...
Thanks

Capm
settings

If setting it in the digit map doesn't work, then it is being overridden by the switch. (if this is the case, you may not need a digit map) Check the switch settings or ask your provider if you're using an outside source. Also, make sure you have "telephone-event" listed as a codec along with your pcmu/pcma etc.

Caller route is a feature

Caller route is a feature that allows segregation and routing of inbound calls to 0800 Numbers, 0845 Numbers or 0844 Numbers based on their origin. It works very similar to Time and Date routing that allows inbound calls to be routed to different destinations based on time and date. Caller route identifies different numbers or numbers from different regions and routes it to specific destinations as programmed by owner.

When you have your customers in two different countries say UK and US. You can create two different teams to server customers from each country. To facilitate this you need segregate all inbound calls from the two regions and route it to specific teams. This can be achieved easily with Caller route feature.

If you want to deal with your VIP customers or important clients directly instead of letting your staff because they are your key clients and you do not want anyone to spoil business with them in any way. You can use Caller Routes to specify the telephone numbers of VIP customers. Instantaneously all inbound calls from those numbers will reach you and balance calls from other numbers will be routed to your staff through Hunt Group or any other feature that you use.

Caller route is the best tool to segregate calls from important customers and handle their calls personally.
