C3 Upstream freeze

Hi
I am having some issues with our 2 Arris C3. Since 2 months ago randomly some upstream port hang up, showing the snr value, buy 0 for mer, and of course all the modem go down. If I shut and no shut the port nothing happened, only reload solve the issue.

Any Ideas ?

I have suspect about noise in the lines, but the thing about reload is very annoying.

Thanks !
PS I Already open a case with our local Arris Support.

port lockup

sounds like a broadcom port lockup issue seen with all cmts's, not just arris. motorola found it, then cisco found it. fixed with software
let us know what happens with the case

Carl Thanks for

Thanks for answer, they send to me a new firmware. This firmware has a watch dog and reset the upstream when the upstream lockup.
Since the upgrade (cross my fingers) don't have any other lockup.

Let us know

In cose others with the same equipment look for an answer ;-)

i have similar problem with arris 1500

Locks down without any reason,
random upstreams random time...
I manage to put modem back online with changing freq or reseting upstream or reseting entire cmts.
It hapens 1-2 days then doesnt for 1-2 months.
Any idea?
Can anyone tell me what freqs to use for upstreams?
I have HFC network with phisical separeted upstreams, and using 50 MHz for each upstream
I also tryied using 45MHz for 1 and 4 and 45 MHz for 2and3 but locking down still happen.

Software Version: 4.3.307
Hardware Version: 05

Older cmts

Thinking it's an older docsis 1.0 1.1 cmts running Euro because of the upstream freq.
how many nodes are combined per upstream port? do you have multi nodes going to more than 1 upstream port?
what's the number of modems per port? what's the snr and modulation used on the upstream? same type of modem and do they have current firmware? Sorry, I don't know what would be current for that cmts's software. hadn't used one in a few years.
does it support upstream load balance? that could be another option to help find root cause

mare
thx carl

1. 4-5 optical nodes per upstream, i think i dont have multinodes on upstreams, if i understand you correctly
2. round 150 modems per upstream, 99% tompson 4200 with newest firmware
3. modulation profile 1 (5 mb/s)
4. Not sure is it supprot upstream load balance, think not, where can i check?
I have complete documentation for it, couldnt find anything about this problem
It was working nice for over a year. Recently start making problems.
I have one more cmts 1500 and i replace it today.
cross fingers it will work. If not, i'll separate users on 2 cmts to see what will happen.
I can send you mng or cfg if like to see it, if its any help.

cfg file

Hi Mare
feel free to send me your modem file, I won't be much help are far as the config on the cmts because it's been a while. but send it along as well. leave out the telnet access and stuff. not looking to go in and make changes. the snr on the upstream is fine. question on the downstream. is there an off air channel that could be leaking in? channel power for the carriers before and after the cmts carrier ok?

i dont think that is the

i dont think that is the number of modems are too much... i hade a 350 modem per upstream, 300 allways connected and 50 offline. on BSR1000. i didnt ever had a problem with that.

Much too much modems per

Much too much modems per upstream for this gear. You have to decrease number to max. 80-90, I got quite a few 1500's and under this condition it works flawlessly

upstream freeze c3

Hi Demian, Carl

Good day, we are also experiencing this upstream freeze, according to our vendor that we might have noise in the plant but after we acquired the c3 all those nodes were in one of our cmts ubr but we haven't experience those upstream in cisco ubr.

Carl said that upgrading the firmware should take care of the problem. BTW demian what firmware version you have in c3.

regards,

froi

C3 Firmware Version

ARRIS CLI version .02
Application image: 4.4.4.8, Feb 19 2009, 22:58:35
BootRom version 4.2.0.2
VxWorks5.4.2

The new firmware basically do a reset to the upstream, all the modems go offline, and in 1, 2 minutes go online again.
In some rare ocasions we still have to reset the C3 because the upstream remain stuck with the mer like 10 dBm

Moto BSR2000 locks up too?

Does the Motorola BSR2000 also have the same bug? What Broadcom chips exactly sport this behaviour?
I'm seeing similar issues on a UBR7223 with one of its cards - an MC-14C? Is it possible to be the same bug?

BSR100 solution?

Hi - I am having the same problem with a Motorola BSR1000. There is no pattern to when this happens. It runs with 4 upstream channels, and a maximum of 40 modems total. Does anyone know a solution for the BSR1000? I am running the newest software/firmware...

By the way, I have a BSR2000 as well, with 3 upstream channels and about 120 modems - never had this problem with this cmts...

possible buffer issue?

Don't have enough info to confirm. the current release is 2.0.1.14 , what is the utilization on the downstream? what is the upstream snr? what does the average modem file have in regards to downstream and upstream speeds?
