Here is what I am trying to do: Install Docsis-Server 3.5 preferably to Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit server

I am trying to install from this file -
http://users.accesscomm.ca/docsis_server/docsis-server-current.tar.bz2

Continually I come back to this error:
checking for m4... /usr/bin/m4
configure: error: GNU M4 is needed

I know moust of people here are IP experts :) , but I belive someone can help me with this one to. We are in a search for some kind of field instrument for balancing return chanel and other docsis measurment. What I whant is something simple not to costly but to get job done.

Since two month ago we have noticed complications in our HG's. The sympthom is the following:
The unit is initially correctly provisioning in our servers: Data and Voice (Europ PC1.5);
After some time (you don't need to do any specific traffic) the MTA part freezes but i steel have Data connections.

I just recently noticed something interesting. I'm generating my config files using the open source docsis program that's on sourceforge. Recently a customer started complaining that his speeds were not running as high as they should, so i started looking at his modem to make sure it had the correct provisioning. Through snmp, I can see that he is getting the correct config file, but I also see this: IF-MIB::ifType.1 = INTEGER: ethernetCsmacd(6) IF-MIB::ifType.2 = INTEGER: docsCableMaclayer(127) IF-MIB::ifType.3 = INTEGER: docsCableDownstream(128)

Once more I call for help. In recent posts, I've been asking about how to improve service. Apart of load balance, well I think that a good way to improve service is to segment optical nodes, for two reasons, one because we have two cmts and we want to put it work. And second because we need to increase the efficiency on the HFC network.

This is what we know:

-We have one optical node which is overload. That's a fact because too much home passes.
-Harmonic 3842 is the reference of our node.

how could I get the IP addresses of all the CMs currently on the network via SNMP? Should I get them from the every particular CMTS or is there another way of getting them?

I need them for getting / setting values of every particular CM in the net.

I love the docsis_server and i invested much time to get things run.

Now I get docsis_server 3.5 run with option 122 (MTA-support). Therfore i added some tricky patches.
So i can do provisioning of Arris TM502B with SIP-load. (GUPI-MTA provisioning flow)

On this board you can find i good howto with dhcpd:

Follow this instruction to set the correct Configfile-Settings.

This works great, but i want to use docsis_server instead of dhcpd.

We recently purchase another cmts (bsr2k) due to our old cmts (a bsr1k) is becoming too small for our users. What I want to do is to separate the traffic between the two cmts and to split the users for differents upstream ports.
