ubr7225 & mc88v card

Hello,
i have a strange situation with my CMTS. i have 2 DS's my first DS works fine with 4US's(use the same configuration on both DS's) but the other DS have a kind of problem with modems, so the modems do not get the recieve connection.
Any help please.

Config looks OK to me except for in the fiber-node, where you say
"upstream Cable 1 connector x",
should that actually be
"upstream Cable 1/0 connector x"
and
"upstream Cable 1/1 connector x" ?

I was looking at the docs on Cisco website and it seems some examples are written as "upstream cable 1" and others as "upstream cable 1/x" which is pretty weird....

Apart from that, things look OK, so if it doesn't work then I would suggest you check your combiner wiring / power levels etc for the cable 1/1 segment

i check the configuration,

i check the configuration, trying with the cable 1/1 and can't make that done,
CMTS-01(config-fiber-node)#upstream cable 1?
<1-2>
CMTS-01(config-fiber-node)#upstream cable 1/?
% Unrecognized command

So i can't make any changes with that.
Also i add this but still have the same problem:
cable load-balance group 1
cable load-balance group 7
Also i check the RF part and connect the modem directly to CMTS with the same problem.

How much progress do the

How much progress do the modems make?

Eg are they locking DS? Are they locking US?

Are you having problems with D3 and D2 modems?

Do you have a handheld meter you can use to look at the signal levels? If not, perhaps login to the CM webpage and look at the levels there.

If you are locking US but not coming online, you can use debug commands on the CMTS to monitor the registration process.

husamaga
The modem never locks the DS1

The modem never locks the DS1, so i don't have any point to start from. the signal quality is good. so i never get to the US lock part.
i don't have a problems with D3 & D2 modems on the DS0 every thing works fine, and have alot of modems w-online & online.

Can you use a spectrum

Can you use a spectrum analyser or handheld meter to view the DS spectrum and make sure the DS channels are being sent from the CMTS? I guess it's not impossible that the MC88 card is faulty. But more likely there is a problem with the cables or DS combiner.

You said you tried plugging in a modem in the headend.... was this using all the same cables, DS combiner as used to feed the plant? If so perhaps replace this with a testing network comprising solely of coax fly leads, a 2 port tap, and some attenuators. I could probably draw a little diagram showing how to do this if you arent sure of what I mean. In fact I think there was a Cisco doc showing how to do this, let me see if i can dig it up.

Test network diagram

Here's a couple of examples showing how to wire up a little test network

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk86/tk804/technologies_configuration_ex...

Probably the 1st one is a better example, as MC88V wont be using upconverters (2nd diagram)

OK, i connected every thing

OK, i connected every thing again, and test a modem in the LAB, the same thing.
i have 2 screenshots from modem attached. i get access denied for some reason. the signal quality is OK.
When i tried DS0 the modem get connected without any problems.

DS PWR 19.7 isnt very good...

DS PWR 19.7 isnt very good... Sounds way too hot!.

Are you SURE you have your attenuations correct? Sounds like you need to add another 20dB !

Even if you have visually inspected the cabling and can see the same attenuators on the combiners as the working DS, maybe replace them, perhaps one of them is faulty?

husamaga
i used the same cables,

i used the same cables, attenuators and splitters and the same, then connect them to DS0 & US0 and the modem connected quikly. but when move the same cables, attenuators, splitters and modem, and connect to DS1 Us4 the modem don't connect. Strange..
don't know what to do :(

19db is too hot, add another

19db is too hot, add another 10db of padding to it, and your 2nd set of downstreams is transmitting harder than the first set already anyway. 2db can make the difference.

Also, is there any particular reason you set your downstream interleave at 12 instead of 32?

EuroDOCSIS has just

EuroDOCSIS has just interleaver with 12.

Oh, duh, skipped right over

Oh, duh, skipped right over annex A

So you think it's only signal

So you think it's only signal problems? i already cheked that and have no success. i will try that again, tomorrow.

husamaga
fixed

OK, the problem was here in this line:
downstream Integrated-Cable 1/1 rf-channel 0-3 upstream 4-7
it should be same as intergrated cable 1/0
downstream Integrated-Cable 1/1 rf-channel 0-3 upstream 0-3
