uBR10K with NSG9K-40G

Does anyone have an example config or insight for working with DEPI sessions between a Harmonic NSG9K-40G and a uBR10012? The DEPI sessions establish but there doesn't appear to be any traffic sent to the EQAM.

Errors on the NSG:
Platform No Input Traffic On
GbEPort-5(IP:UDP:Out-10.30.4.105:1252051086:13) Socket CMTS-Depi Source Failure On

It appears that the EQAM is able to establish the sessions with the CMTS and appropriately applies the QAM settings from the CMTS when it's running in M-CMTS Dynamic mode. Currently we have the 3G60 and EQAM connected back to back, directly without a switch to simplify things for a bit. Manual sessions and DEPI sessions both exhibit the same errors on the NSG and using manual M-CMTS mode on the NSG also results in the same errors.

Yes, I have this combo on

Yes, I have this combo on several CMTS.

Your supplied configs seem OK

Some things to check on the CMTS :
* on your rf-channels you have interleave 128, is this intentional? Mine are 32 (default).
* in the running conf : cable clock dti
* show cable clock dti (should be normal, freerun)
* have your setup the mac domain ("interface cable 5/0/0"), nominated the primary channels etc (eg "downstream Modular-Cable 5/0/0 rf-channel 0")
* have you "no shut" these primary channels(eg "interface Modular-Cable5/0/0:0")

Some things to check on the NSG :

Platform -> General -> DTI1/DTI2, should be enabled, NORMAL, FREERUN

Platform -> General -> 10GbE5
* General
-- Enable port
-- Speed 1Gbps
-- Autoneg ticked
-- IP address : 10.30.4.102 / 255.255.255.0 (note I use 255.255.255.252 masks)
* Virtual IPs, not needed for your initial lab of just 1 x modular-cable interface. Is needed if you later start using switch with 10G uplinks etc

Platform -> General -> Chassis
* Global RF and QAM.
-- RF Scheme. Mine says 6B-6B-12B-12B. Annex-B with interleave 32 (matches my CMTS). I see you have got your CMTS controller set to 128 interleave, so make sure yours matches up.
-- RF Template : Frequency
-- Default QAM manager : M-CMTS Dynamic
(To make changes, you have to change to M-CMTS, set all QAMs, update settings, set back to M-CMTS Dynamic, set all QAMs)

Platform -> General -> Slot 1
* Module : Inherited from the global settings we just looked at above
* Ports
-- RF should be enable
-- Make sure the frequency range is set so it covers your 621 to 759 range (this has bite me before!)
-- QAMs per port set appropriately? Eg 24
(To make changes, you have to change to M-CMTS, set all QAMs, update settings, set back to M-CMTS Dynamic, set all QAMs)
* Port 1 QAMs : the TS ID here needs to match the TSID you nominated on CMTS, ie usually would be 1 to 36 for port 1

Applications -> M-CMTS
* settings, DLM on (and on your CMTS controller modular-cable, put "rf-channel X network-delay auto")
* sessions, your dynamic DEPI sessions should show up here

Monitoring -> Traffic -> Input view
* You should see some services and traffic on GbE5

Monitoring -> Logs -> Counters
* Check to see if you are sending/receiving management packets
* Check your are receiving bytes, and not receiving CRC

If still no good, what software do you have on the NSG? for M-CMTS I think the recommended is around 3.7.4

Thanks for taking the time to

Thanks for taking the time to write a detailed reply. I figured out the issue as far as establishing the depi sessions; Since the current NSG firmware version (3.3.x) doesn't support DLM I had to manually specify the network delay, using the min setting of 1000 seems to work well. Strangely though, using a proc card with 3.7.3 and enabling DLM then auto network-delay on the CMTS didn't fix the problem (not sure why, probably a settings mismatch). That's when i switched back to the 3.3 proc and started looking into the manual network-delay.

Going to start on the DS SPAs and aggregating the links through a switch; should be pretty straight forward now with your pointers. thanks again.

Edit: any chance there's better NSG documentation than what's available from harmonic's public site? It seems quite outdated
