Asus CM-32_AC2600 - Stuck in BPI_INIT

Hey guys,

So I am trying activate this new modem on Spectrum, which IS on their approved list btw. I have now tried two different units and I can't get anywhere with support. I am seeing the two following disturbances in the log files.

2019-10-17 17:24:44 [CRITICAL] Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities received - T4 time out
2019-10-17 17:25:13 [WARNING] MIMO Event MIMO: Stored MIMO=-1 post cfg file MIMO=-1

They are insisting everything is correct, but I think there is something up in the config or the certificate. I of course am not able to discuss this with anyone having to play telephone via a middle man. Any help is greatly appreciated.

How do you know it is stuck

How do you know it is stuck in BPI_INIT? Do you have access to the CMTS? Or did they tell you it is in BPI_INIT?

BPI_INIT can have a few causes, that I have seen:

Modem Firmware incompatibilities -- You could try power cycling the modem to see if it improves.

Some kind of interference on the line, things like ingress and packet loss -- As an end-user the only things you can do are verify wiring in your house, eliminate any splitters and unnecessary coax from your Wall jack to the modem. Don't use store bought cables if possible, use Cable Company supplied compression fittings cable if available.

If neither of those work, setup a service call and have them bring a Spectrum supplied modem to verify service is working correctly. If it works with their modem and not yours it is likely modem firmware issues. Unfortunately, Firmware updates can only be performed by Spectrum and they happen after the modem proceeds past BPI_INIT.

Thanks for the reply. So my

Thanks for the reply. So my modem actually shows the the state, CM logs, and syslogs so I can see it all, and it shows current state BPI_INIT. I have my old modem online and it works fine. They were out here and all the line tests came back excellent.

The logs show auth rejections but I am also seeing errors in the DHCP area. I can see on my old modem it is provisioned as IPv6, and the errors in the syslog of my new router are showing errors with DHCP6.

Without access to the CMTS

Without access to the CMTS side debugging there is very little you can do.

Only other option would be to take the modem to a friends house and if it works there, you can have Spectrum come back and point out it works at another point in the network. If it doesn't work there either, it is likely a compatibility issue.

I will be honest with you, though, this is likely not something you can fix from your side, or get anyone on the phone to help you fix. This is most likely a compatibility issue, that only lab testing could resolve.

If you bought it at a retail store, you may try exchanging it for a different modem.
