Cox Communications is seeking a Broadband Engineer II for an opening in our Deer Valley (Phoenix) office. Here are the details:
JOB SUMMARY
The Broadband Operations Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining DOCSIS and IP network platforms.ÃÂ He/she will develop operational methods and procedures as they relate to supporting technologies and services deployed within the network.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Maintains and operates DOCSIS network infrastructure
Maintains and supports IP infrastructure
Trains and mentors the Broadband Operations Tech I and Broadband Operations Tech II in advanced troubleshooting procedures
Analyzes and develops solution for failures and outages at a highly advanced level
Coordinates the repair efforts of networking equipment
Provides Tier III support to the NOC for all data related customer issues
Performs both internal and external escalations on all hardware and software failures and all data related outages
Coordinates with the NOC to restore outages in the RDC(s)
Responsible for analyzing daily reports and ensuring discrepancies are resolved
Provides day-to-day support activities for the HFC data platforms
Maintains current knowledge and uses all appropriate processes and procedures for all Data Network systems/applications
Remains current on the latest data network technology through completion of required/recommended training and reading material
Maintains a commitment to safe practices and holds others equally accountable
Functions on a 24-hour call-in basis, in the event of serious malfunctions, as required
QUALIFICATIONS - ESSENTIAL
Education:
BS degree in CS/EE or related field or equivalent professional/leadership experience
Experience:
Five (5)+ years of directly related work experience
Five (5)+ years experience in network design and troubleshooting technical issues
Other:
Advanced knowledge of DOCSIS
DOCSIS 1.0
DOCSIS 2.0
DOCSIS 3.0
Advanced Experience in operating Cisco and Motorola CMTS platforms
Advanced knowledge of Routing and Switching
Advanced TCP/IP experience
Strong knowledge of CableLabs standards (DOCSIS, PacketCable, CableHome)
Strong knowledge of RF technologies (QPSK, QAM)
Provide daily outage reports and documentation
QUALIFICATIONS - DESIRED
Education:
Advanced vendor certifications (Cisco / Juniper)
Experience:
Ten (10)+ years of directly related work experience
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Strong leadership skills/abilities in a facilitative environment
Expert knowledge of IP services (IP, Multicast, QoS, OSPF, BGP, MPLS)
Expert knowledge of OSI model and services (OSI Layers, IEEE standards, RFC's)
Working knowledge of network management systems
Working knowledge of RF technologies
Strong ability to provide an in-depth analysis of an escalated problem
Ability to function in a highly fluid environment with aggressive deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate to cross functional teams
Must enjoy creative problem solving
Must possess good organizational and prioritization skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
